Prepare yourself for your plan changes!

🚨 Attention Medicare Clients! 🚨

It’s that time of year again—your Annual Notice of Changes (ANOC) is on its way to your mailbox! 📬 This document is a key part of Medicare, as it outlines critical updates to your plan for the upcoming year. But what exactly does it mean, and what should you do with it? Let’s break it down so you can make sure you’re prepared for any changes to your coverage.

What Is the ANOC?

The Annual Notice of Changes (ANOC) is a summary document sent by your Medicare insurance company each year, typically arriving by the end of September. It highlights the changes to your Medicare Advantage or Medicare Part D plan for the upcoming year, including:

  • Premium changes: Will your monthly premium increase or decrease?
  • Adjustments to deductibles, copayments, and coinsurance: Find out how your out-of-pocket costs may change for doctor visits, hospital stays, or prescription drugs.
  • Updates to covered medications: Check to see if your prescriptions will still be covered, or if there are any changes to drug tiers that could affect your costs.
  • Network provider changes: See if any of your preferred doctors, hospitals, or pharmacies will no longer be in the plan’s network.
  • New or modified plan benefits: Discover if your plan is adding or removing any perks, like dental, vision, or wellness programs.

Why Is the ANOC Important?

The ANOC gives you a clear picture of how your current plan is changing for the next year. Medicare plans can alter their premiums, deductibles, and benefits annually, so it’s crucial to review this document carefully. If there are changes that don’t work for you, the ANOC allows you to assess whether it’s time to explore new coverage options.

When Can You Make Changes to Your Plan?

Once you’ve reviewed your ANOC and decided whether to keep or change your plan, you can make adjustments during the Medicare Annual Enrollment Period (AEP), which runs from October 15th to December 7th each year. During AEP, you can:

  • Switch from one Medicare Advantage plan to another
  • Move from Original Medicare to a Medicare Advantage plan (or vice versa)
  • Change or enroll in a Medicare Part D (prescription drug) plan
  • Drop Medicare Advantage and return to Original Medicare

Changes made during AEP will take effect on January 1st of the following year, so it’s important to review your options before making any decisions.

What Should You Do When You Receive Your ANOC?

Here are a few simple steps to help you navigate the ANOC process:

  1. Read through the document carefully: Take time to review all changes to your plan’s costs, coverage, and provider network.
  2. Compare with your current healthcare needs: Are the changes manageable? Will your current plan still meet your needs in the coming year?
